TIAMINA
WHAT IS THIAMINE
Thiamine is one of the vitamins belonging to the B complex, which are a group of water-soluble vitamins involved in many of the body’s chemical reactions. It is a vitamin that helps the body’s cells convert carbohydrates into energy for the body, especially the brain and nervous system, which plays a role in muscle contraction and conduction of nerve signals.
Thiamine has scientifically proven efficacy in helping to correct metabolic disorders associated with genetic diseases in preventing magnesium deficiency and in Thiamine Deficiency Brain Disorder, known as Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. Giving thiamine injections appears to help decrease the risk of developing WKS and decrease its symptoms during alcohol withdrawal.
There is evidence that Thiamine is also effective in reducing the risk of developing cataracts, in preventing kidney disease in people with type 2 diabetes. Taking high doses of thiamine (100 mg three times a day) for three months significantly decreases the amount of albumin in the urine in people with type 2 diabetes. Albumin in the urine is an indicator of kidney damage. It also stops painful menstruation (Dysmenorrhea).
