EFFECT OF PF2 ON THE PROLIFERATION OF LYMPHOCYTES
At National Congress of the Immunology Society of 2004 a study titled PF2: A NEW IMMUNOMODULATOR THAT ACTS ON THE PROLIFERATION OF LYMPHOCYTES. The study was carried out by doctors E. Jiménez-Medina, M. Martínez-Llamas, L. Paco, A. García-Lora, and F. Garrido from the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, Clinical Analysis Service, Granada. Its objective was to study the possible biological mechanism involved in the activity of PF2, focusing on the immunomodulatory potential on PBLs (peripheral blood lymphocytes) and NK cells.
El PF2 It is a polysaccharide obtained from the Marigold Officinalis L.(Asteraceae), component of Regis KH antiOx, through a new extraction process. In recent years, the PF2 It has been used in cancer patients. The results have shown that it has a double therapeutic effect:
- Strong antitumor effect
- Decreased side effects of chemotherapy.
One of the studies carried out consisted of analyzing the in vitro proliferation of human peripheral blood lymphocytes to determine if the product has mitogenic activity. These lymphocytes were treated for 72 hours with different concentrations of PF2. In addition, the proliferation assays carried out with PBLs showed an increase in lymphocyte proliferation 2 to 3 times higher than the control group and 10-20% compared to Concanavalin A.
On the contrary, in NK cytotoxicity assays, no action of PF2 was observed on NK cells obtained from spleens of mice orally treated with this product.
Conclusions on PF2
The conclusions of this study show that the PF2 has an effect on the proliferation of lymphocytes, It is also a natural product, without toxicity, very common in most of the world and low cost. In this way, this product is broad and can be applied to oncology patients, or with bacterial or viral infections.
